I have a new favorite botanical artist, who also liked to draw dragons and other amazing mythical creatures. Or maybe they weren't mythical in 1580.
And here's a few dragons currently residing at Florali...
an ancient Chinese bronze bowl
Is this a stretch?...maybe, but every time I look at it I think dragon. It's a piece of manzanita burl wood with a tilllandsia on its back.
His name was Ulisse Aldrovandi, born in Bologna in 1522 and died in 1605. You may be seeing a lot of his work here. I find his drawings so appealing.
Doesn't he have a nice face?
